Non-degree Course Series for VA Add-On Endorsement in Gifted Education

This four-course standalone series (12 credits) is 100% online and is approved for application to a Virginia Department of Education Add-on Endorsement in Gifted Education.

  • Courses are taken as non-degree for educators who do not wish to seek further certification or degree at this time. Educators may apply the credits (within six years) to the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. Program advisor consultation required at the time of application.
  • Courses are 100% online, asynchronous.
  • Special cohort contract rates are available to school districts interested in offering this series to educators.


This standalone non-degree series of courses is designed to help develop teachers who:

  • Have a strong understanding of giftedness in its many forms and manifestations across student populations;
  • Are able to articulate how gifted learners develop in their social and emotional wellbeing and are prepared to recognize and address related needs;
  • Are well-versed in differentiated curriculum design and assessment;
  • Can plan for and monitor instruction that challenges and supports gifted learners;
  • Are prepared to be leaders in gifted program development.

Licensed Virginia educators can apply for the Virginia Add-on Endorsement in Gifted Education by completing 12 credit hours of coursework as follows:

Each course is taught by experts in gifted education. Each course is fully online and offered on rotating schedules of fall, spring, and summer.

How to obtain Virginia Add-On Endorsement in Gifted Education

The Virginia Department of Education determines the requirements for licensure in Gifted Education. These four courses have been approved for application to the state endorsement. Consult with your school district regarding additional state endorsement requirements and to aid you in completing your state endorsement application.
