By offering the Blended and Online Learning in Schools (BOLS) program fully online, participants experience online learning first hand as a learner.
Affiliated with the Division of Learning Technologies, the Blended and Online Learning in Schools Graduate Certificate Program meets the needs of K-12 educators interested in blending online and face-to-face instruction as well as teaching in fully-online learning environments. The fully-online certificate program is a 16 credit hour option guided by the International Association for K-12 Online Learning’s (iNACOL) National Standards for Quality Online Teaching. The graduate certificate may be applied to the Master's concentration in Blended and Online Learning in Schools concentration.
By offering the certificate program fully online, participants experience online learning first hand as a learner. The program models a variety of online practices and instructional designs that promote excellence. For instance, online learners can feel isolated and anonymous in an online learning environment. As a result, students in the program receive a high level of communication and feedback from their instructors and most of the courses facilitate student-to-student communication and collaboration. Most of the program instructors also create or curate course content. Doing so ensures that course content remains current while also reducing the number of textbooks students are required to purchase.
Students can be admitted into the program Fall or Spring semesters. Students should meet all general College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) admissions requirements. This is an advanced program and graduates do not earn a K-12 state teaching licensure.
