Why did you decide to become an elementary teacher?

I decided to become an elementary teacher because of my own experiences with a learning disability (Dyslexia & ADHD), which made me realize how important it is for students to receive personalized support and encouragement in their education. I want to create a nurturing environment where children, especially those who face similar challenges, can thrive and feel confident in their abilities. My goal is to inspire young learners by sharing my journey and demonstrating that with patience, creativity, and the right tools, they can overcome obstacles and succeed in their academic pursuits. I believe that every child deserves a chance to shine, and I am passionate about being the teacher who makes that possible.

Why did you choose to study Elementary Education at Mason?

I chose to study Elementary Education at Mason because I was impressed by how much they focus on real teaching experiences and connecting with the community. The program allows students to learn by working in local schools, which I believe is crucial for becoming a good teacher. The professors are supportive, and the resources available will help me build my skills to meet the needs of my students.

What advice would you give to the students who are just starting the ELED program?

My advice to students starting the Elementary Education program is to stay curious and open to new ideas. Take the time to observe different teachers and learn from their styles. Build friendships with your classmates, as support and collaboration can help you a lot. Reflect on your own learning experiences to connect better with your future students. Lastly, remember to take care of yourself and find balance, as the journey to becoming a teacher can be both tough and rewarding.

Where do you see yourself in your career 10 years from now?

In ten years, I see myself as a passionate elementary school teacher who creates an engaging and inclusive classroom for all students. Having lived in Japan as a child and traveled extensively with my family, as well as studying in Italy during college, I hope to teach internationally and share rich cultural experiences with my students. I want to support new teachers by offering guidance based on my own experiences and help them grow in their careers. Additionally, I plan to be actively involved in my community through after-school programs that assist families with educational needs. My ultimate goal is to ensure every student feels respected and inspired to achieve their best.
