Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. I currently live in Winchester and commute for classes.
Why did you decide to become an elementary teacher?
I decided to become an elementary teacher because I’ve always known I wanted to work with kids—it’s been a constant passion throughout my life. As a first-generation college student who worked as an aide for a few years, I saw firsthand the difference a supportive, caring teacher can make. Going back to school for my degree felt like a natural step, allowing me to build on my experience and become the kind of teacher who inspires and encourages kids to believe in themselves. Helping them discover their potential is incredibly meaningful to me.
Why did you choose to study Elementary Education at Mason?
As a first-generation student, I wanted a supportive community that values both academic growth and practical skills. The program's commitment to preparing future educators with innovative teaching strategies aligns perfectly with my passion for working with children. Additionally, being part of a supportive community of faculty and peers at Mason has made my educational journey even more enjoyable.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I’m clowning over Taylor Swift’s last two album rereleases, hitting the gym for strength training, and cheering on all the D.C. sports teams. I also love rewatching my comfort shows, and right now, I’m working my way through How I Met Your Mother, again. There’s something about those familiar shows that makes relaxing extra fun!
Where do you see yourself in your career 10 years from now?
In ten years, I see myself as an experienced kindergarten or sixth-grade teacher, still excited and inspired by my students every day. I’d love to be someone they remember as kind, supportive, and able to make learning fun and meaningful. By then, I hope to have developed strong teaching strategies that help all students feel confident and capable, no matter their starting point. I’d also like to mentor newer teachers and share the insights I’ve gained over the years, helping to build a positive, collaborative school environment. Ultimately, my goal is to make a lasting impact in students' lives while continuing to grow as an educator myself.
