Studying Abroad
Studying abroad may be one of the most beneficial experiences for a college student. You will have the chance to see a side of your major that you may not have been exposed to at home.
Secondary Education in Cambridge
Through the “Secondary Education in Cambridge” experience you can immerse yourself in secondary teaching and learning in an international setting. Students spend the last 2 weeks in April in a secondary school in Cambridge, partnering with a host teacher, observing and learning about instructional skills and secondary education traditions in the United Kingdom.
The program is open to students in the MEd in Secondary Education program and counts as one of your two graduate electives. The price for this program (approximately $3750 in 2024, which can be covered by financial aid) includes your 3-credit elective, housing, shuttles, excursions, and some meals. SEED faculty will work with any interested students — regardless of your place in the SEED program sequence — to participate in this program, making accommodations for any other courses in which you are enrolled, including internship. Apply by mid-November each year, and contact Dr. Kristien Zenkov (the Cambridge program faculty host) at kzenkov@gmu.edu or 703-993-5413 or Allie Wallace in Mason’s Center for Global Studies at awalla@gmu.edu or 703-993-3685.
