Bemak Receives Fulbright Specialists Award

Mason professor Fred Bemak was selected for a Fulbright Specialists project in the United Kingdom from March 3 to 17.
Bemak, who is also the director of the Diversity Research and Action Center, was invited by the Department of Counselling and Psychotherapy in the School of Health in Social Science, which is based in the Medical School at the University of Edinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Bemak, an expert in the field of counseling and development, conducted workshops and seminars on cross-cultural, postdisaster and group counseling, as well as counseling refugees, immigrants and children.
The Fulbright Specialists Program, created in 2000 to complement the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, provides short-term academic opportunities (two to six weeks) to prominent U.S. faculty members and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at postsecondary academic institutions around the world. About 400 individuals are selected for the program each year.
