NBCT Components are a unique offering from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards® (NBPTS) that provides a standards-based approach for improving teaching practice and links student learning to effective instruction.

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at George Mason University partners with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to offer three graduate credits to teachers who complete the first NBCT Component submission as part of a teacher’s National Board portfolio. Although the remaining components are part of the full National Board submitted portfolio, these separate components after Component One are not eligible for additional credit. A total of three (3) credits may be earned by the documented submission of Component One.

To register at Mason for graduate credit for NBCT Component One, please submit the following:

  • your completed enrollment form and a copy of your NB submission indicating that Component One was received in full by the NB, along with the Score Report you received. It is not necessary that you have “passed” this component to receive credit; however, the full score report must be submitted. Email these to nbcr@gmu.edu.
  • payment by credit card of $500 using Touchnet (link below). For National Board payments made by schools or another third party, please contact our office at nbcr@gmu.edu to receive invoicing information.
  • Enrollment deadlines are May 1st for spring, July 20th for summer, and December 1st for fall. Forms received after the deadline will be applied to the next semester.

Pay with credit card

Once all documentation is received, you will be formally registered for the graduate credit course. You will receive an email that the credits have been awarded, and directions will be given for how you may order a transcript reflecting the graduate credits earned. Please do not request a transcript until you have received confirmation of enrollment and your grade from George Mason University.

Questions relating to Mason graduate credit for the NBCT Component may be emailed to nbcr@gmu.edu.
