Computer science teachers develop students' design, reasoning, and problem-solving skills—all valuable well beyond the computer science classroom.
This 23-credit certificate is available only to students pursuing a BS in computer science. Students who complete both the bachelor's degree and this certificate will be eligible for initial Virginia licensure in secondary education 6–12 with an endorsement in computer science.

- SEED 440: Human Development, Learning, and Teaching (3 credits)
- SEED 466: Teaching Computer Science in Secondary School (3 credits)
- SEED 476: Advanced Methods of Teaching Computer Science in the Secondary School (3 credits)
- SEED 491: Internship Seminar in Secondary Teaching (2 credits)
- SEED 496: Internship: Secondary Education Computer Science (6 credits)

Content Area Requirements for Virginia Licensure
There may be additional coursework that is required for this licensure pathway. In addition to the required courses listed above, this degree pathway leading to licensure, requires coursework in the following areas:
- Discrete Mathematics
- Course in Algebra or higher
- Statistics or data science course
- Intro/Fundamentals of Computer Science
- Object-Oriented Programming
- Additional Programming Course
- Application of Computer Technology – 2 courses
- Data Structures AND Algorithms (one course with both, or two separate courses)
- English Composition/Writing Course
