CPR Requirement for Internship and Licensure

To meet the state of Virginia’s requirement for certification and training in emergency first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the use of automated external defibrillators (based on the current national evidence-based guidelines for CPR and AED), all students enrolled in an "initial licensure" state-approved educator preparation program—or applying for initial licensure—will need to present a current certificate as evidence of completing First Aid, AED, and hands-on CPR training when:

  • Applying for internship (student teaching)
  • Applying for licensure

Hybrid training courses (online and in-person CPR skills training) will be accepted.

Sending Verification of Training

Verification of your Emergency First Aid, CPR, and use of AED Certification or Training requirement (with hands-on component) must be submitted by the internship application deadline or with your licensure packet when filing for licensure. Students must submit proof of their training certificate or card. Documents should be scanned and emailed to internsh@gmu.edu or dropped off in Thompson Hall, Suite 2200 to be entered into the Mason system.

Note: Your CPR/AED/First Aid Certificate with hands-on component must be valid throughout the entire length of the internship. When emailing your certificate to internsh@gmu.edu, include your G-number in your email.
