Assistive technology is any item, piece of equipment, software or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
The Assistive Technology Program coursework helps professionals to use assistive technology in education as well as government and private practices. This program offers coursework at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level. The Assistive Technology master's degree (30 credits) and graduate certificate (15 credits) are fully online programs, enabling students to take coursework from anywhere.
Assistive Technology Minor Program (15 Credits)
The Assistive Technology Minor (15 Credits) is designed to provide undergraduate students with an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and connect how AT can benefit their field of study. The AT minor is relevant for all fields of study and often includes students from the humanities, social sciences, nursing, computer science, and engineering. AT coursework completed at the undergraduate level may be applied toward AT graduate degree programs.
Assistive Technology Graduate Certificate Program (15 Credits)
The Assistive Technology Graduate Certificate Program (15 Credits) is designed to provide supplemental training to practitioners needing to use assistive technology with the individuals with disabilities with whom they work. Some may wish to complete the certificate and some individuals may wish to only take specific courses to meet their needs. The AT Certificate utilizes a tool-based, hands-on, direct-learning approach and provides individuals with training on current assistive technology and techniques as well as assistive technology and its application.
MEd Master's in Assistive Technology Concentration (30 Credits)
The Assistive Technology Master's degree program (30 Credits) is designed to provide in-depth training for individuals seeking positions within the Assistive Technology profession. In addition to the tool-based, hands-on training on current assistive technology and techniques available in the certificate courses, students in the masters programs receive advanced education and skills in assistive technology assessment, collaboration, and research to create high-level AT professionals.
PhD - Assistive Technology Specialization (78-85 Credits)
The PhD in Education program includes the study and practice of educational research as well application of theory and practice in the fields of education. PhD students interested in assistive technology research have the opportunity to engage in advanced scholarship through the Special Education or Learning Technologies Design Research doctoral specializations. PhD students may also seek AT coursework as part of their minor area of studies. In addition, PhD in Education students often take individual AT coursework as an elective to enrich their current program of study.
