Students can choose between two pathways based on licensure and degree status. The 47‑credit MEd is for students seeking initial Virginia licensure in PK–12 Blindness and Visual Impairments. The 26-credit Graduate Certificate in Blindness and Visual Impairments PK-12 Licensure is intended for students who already hold a teaching license in the state of Virginia in either special education or general education and may have already satisfied professional studies requirements. Please connect with an advisor if you are uncertain which degree option to choose or to learn about which courses you need to take and to establish a program of study.

If you already hold a teaching license in another field of special education, you may be able to waive some of the requirements. Please contact Special Education Program for more information.
